Manchester Imagination Library is a book gifting programme, affiliated to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. We work in partnership with The Dollywood Foundation UK to provide the Imagination Library to children across the city. To find out more visit www.imaginationlibrary.com/uk.
Manchester Imagination Library (MIL) (charity number 1177843) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), driven entirely by dedicated volunteers. Our trustees bring extensive professional experience working with young children and their families, ensuring our governance is informed, strategic, and passionate about early childhood literacy.
We work in close collaboration with vital local partners, including SureStart, Manchester Libraries, Reform Radio, National Literacy Trust, Manchester City Council and various statutory and voluntary organisations. Our volunteer model means that 95% of every donation directly funds the delivery of books, maximizing the impact of every pound entrusted to us.
In order to promote early education and development in literacy, communication and language skills, we provide a free age-appropriate book to registered children from birth to 5 years every month.
It costs £26 per child per year.
The Charity relies on funding and sponsorship to enable us to register more children onto the Imagination Library. Unfortunately, due Dollywood Foundation Imagination Library’s belief that all books should be free for children, parents cannot pay for their child to receive the books. However anyone parents can support the project to increase our funds by signing up to the Easyfundraising. Please click on the donate button for information on how to do this.
What Manchester Imagination Library think about getting the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service?
We are overwhelmed to receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, which reflects on the work carried out by the volunteers of the project. Most importantly though is that we have received this award on behalf of the families who have benefitted from this project and we will carry on applying for funds and working with partners to enable the project to reach ALL children aged under 5 years across Manchester.
